OPERATION JATA JOOTA
Objective: Avoid harvest loss and therefore human loss from excess un-seasonal rains.
Required resources and respective purpose:
1) Small pieces of Land at intervals – Huge RCC/steel columns are erected in corners of grids of cultivated land.
2) Huge RCC columns – These columns serve purpose of supporting hanging strings which carry the fiber glass.
3) Steel strings – Strings are suspended from each RCC column and hold the fiber/ transparent glass.
4) Fiber/ transparent Glass – this will act as umbrella from rain water dropping off into the fields and as well as collects rain water.
5) High capacity pumps: These are setup-up at water collection points and pump water outside to draught areas.
6) Power supply to pumps.
Challenges for Jata-Joota:
1) Power supply for lift-irrigation
2) High chances of Earth quakes disturbing the complete matrix-like structure.
3) Farmers loosing land.
4) Maintenance of this entire setup.
5) Dedicated, service minded personnel to carryout this task.
Purpose of Jata-Joota:
1) To avoid excess/un-seasonal rain water that destroys fruit from major commercial crops like cotton and rice before harvest.
2) To collect the excess water in an engineering/scientific manner and route the excess rain water to draught areas.
3) A cyclonic rain can be identified in advance but cannot effects can never be averted and hence this solution.

Additional advantages:
1) Gandhi Ji’s dream “Villages are backbone of India” comes true, at least in near future.
2) It is an engineer’s, society’s, government’s responsibility to avoid human loss; Major issues like farmer suicides are mitigated.
3) Harvest loss is mitigated to a large extent.
4) The water which is collected this way is routed to draught areas like Medak.
5) Birds which cause minimal loss also can be kept off from farming sites.
6) The lift-irrigated water can be used to de-fluorinate lands like Nalgonda District.
7) Metro city requirements like Hyderabad / Chennai/ Blr are easily met easily by lift irrigation.
8) This is a once for all solution for two-thee major challenges.
9) Jata-Joota will stand as a major example of rain-water harvesting to common public.
10) I would like to emphasize at the end, that IT Engineers have never ignored farmers.

Above is my concept that talks about controlling unseasonal rain water in India by not allowing them to pour on to the farming land and directing them to channels. I understand a huge amount of cost is involved , however the advantages are also in similar magnitude. This year AP and Telangana states alone have estimated 50K crore INR, which I believe is enough to start a project in few hectares.

1) Onset of a Cyclone can be identified and notified , but the effects of the same cannot be averted
2) The effect is obvious as seen in past few decades - CROP Loss
3) Few direct losses
a) Loan given to farmer is lost
b) Effort of farmer is lost
c) Fruit from Crop is lost
d) Loan+Fruit Crop loss = double loss for that year
e) rain water is wasted
How do I want to execute my project
a) Erect steel columns as in a grid in main farming land, these should be firm enough like wind mill columns
b) Place transparent sheets of fiber glass horizontally (parallel to ground), the design of these sheets should be in such a way that these take the direction of flow of wind
c) Pipes/channels for flow of rain water dropping from sheets are dug or placed at the edges of the farming land
Assumed high level risks:
1) One time planning and investment cost is huge
2) Lot of cooperation is required as PPP
3) As this is a construction project, it might need yearly maintenance
4) last but not least - commitment from government and public
Advantages I see
1) Indian Farmer is a precious resource, we can save lives of many, pls consider the suicides of farmers
2) Rain water can be diverted to drought places ( like Nalgonda in AP)
3) Employment is generated in high scale less…
